World Aid Walk
The 46th World Aid Walk (WAW) took place on Monday 2nd May 2016, from Market Square in Guernsey and Herm Harbour.
Over 1,000 walkers took part in Guernsey and Herm in 2016 and raised an amazing £22,000. This has been very kindly matched by the Overseas Aid and Development Commission, which means that the 2016 World Aid Walk has raised a total of £44,000 to help reduce global poverty! Fantastic effort!
Thank you so much to everyone who took part in this year’s World Aid Walk. We hope you’ll agree that this was the best year yet, with over 1,000 walkers taking part, and every pound raised being match-funded by the States of Guernsey’s Overseas Aid and Development Commission. We also had an excellent sponsor, the generous Standard Chartered Bank, who got involved in all areas of organising this year’s Walk.
Since the first World Aid Walk started, in 1970, walkers have raised more than half a million pounds to help people in need around the world. This year Action Aid, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children, The Tumaini Fund, The Eleanor Foundation and Standard Chartered Bank’s ‘Seeing is Believing’ all benefited from the funds raised by the Walk. Read more about each charity’s chosen projects on this website.
For the first time this year, the main way to register was online. We heard great feedback from walkers and organisers, so will continue to work this way in 2017, along with a few improvements to the sign-up process. Remember, it’s not too late to submit your sponsorship for this year if you haven’t already. You can add this to your personal fundraising page or email email@example.com for more information on how to donate.
Keep an eye out for details of this year’s World Aid Walk Awards Ceremony on this site and our social media pages. We’ll be having prizes for highest amount of sponsorship raised by individuals and schools, as well as a new trophy for the most amount raised by a Corporate Team this year. Good luck everyone!
