World Aid Walk
Bank Holiday Monday, starts 0900 2nd May 2016 – Guernsey (0900), Sark (1200) & Herm (0930)
The 2016 World Aid Walk (WAW) will take place on Monday 2nd May starting at 9am in the Market Square, St Peter Port.
Since the first World Aid Walk started, in 1970, you’ve raised approximately half a million pounds to help people in need around the world. This year Action Aid, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children, The Tumaini Fund, The Eleanor Foundation and Standard Chartered Bank’s ‘Seeing is believing’ will all benefit from the funds you raise. Read more about their chosen projects on this website.
For the first year, the main way to register is online. Just click on the link to the right or visit https://race-nation.com/world-aid-walk-guernsey-2016. This year we are asking all adult walkers to pay a registration fee of £5, but we are delighted to be able to keep this event free for all walkers under 16 years old.
Following on line registration you will be sent a confirmation with your unique Walker Number and a link to a sponsorship form for you to print out and bring on the day, a payment receipt if applicable, and a further email with a link to your personal online fundraising page, which you can have fun making personal to you.
For postal entries or if you don’t have an email address, please look at the How to Enter page under the Information Tab.
We acknowledge your efforts with an Award Ceremony later in the year, so have a look at the names for previous years in the Awards section on this site and see if you can join them in 2016 and together let us beat the amounts raised. You can also download the 2016 Poster and place it in your school, church or workplace and share the word. We would love it if at work, school or home you could form a team and go for the team prize. This year we are also introducing the Corporate Team Trophy, so good luck!
We are thrilled to announce our new sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank. The WAW organizing Committee and I very much look forward to working with Trevor Kelham and all at SCB to ensure this is a really successful 46th World Aid Walk.
I know how much you will enjoy this event – our gallery photos remind us each year! Sealord Photography captured some wonderful moments on the 2015 walk which can be viewed on their website sealordphotography.net – a sample of photos can be viewed on the slideshow below.
