The Bailiff of Guernsey, Richard Collas is to once again start the World Aid Walk in St Peter Port.

He comments, “I am looking forward to not only starting the Walk this year but also taking part in it. It is an enjoyable day out in the fresh air which can be enjoyed by all the family.”

“I would encourage you to take part as the exercise that you receive is not only beneficial to yourselves but you will also help to raise money for a worthy cause. You can feel proud of your achievement of taking part in the Walk even if you do not succeed in completing all of it. I look forward to seeing you on the day.” Richard Collas concludes.

The 20km walk will start and finish in Market Square, St Peter Port on 6 May 2013 starting at 9am. Walks are also taking place in Herm and Sark, and more details can be found on the World Aid Walk website.

Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.

Chair of the World Aid Walk Bella Farrell says, “We are so pleased Richard Collas has agreed to support us once again. His support is very much valued as is that of our sponsor Ipes, who through their sponsorship makes it possible for every penny raised by walkers to go directly to the charities the walk supports.”

“We hope as many people as possible will take part in this year’s event and help in the global fight against poverty. The event is suitable for all ages and will have the added attraction this year that the route has been reversed.” Bella Farrell concludes.

The organisers of Guernsey’s World Aid Walk have confirmed a new route is now in place for this year’s walk.

The walk will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May and once again start and finish in Market Square at 9am. The walk will go through the High Street and along the front into the Vale and onto the West Coast and then returning to St Peter Port up the Rohais.

Bella Farrell Chair of the World Aid Walk says “We are delighted to now be able to confirm the new route and hope this will encourage more people to take part as we are confident this is a safer route for walkers and will provide a new challenge for those who have taken part in the event for many years.”

Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.

Entry is now open for this year’s walk and forms can be downloaded from www.worldaidwalk.org.gg or picked up from Beau Sejour or the Oxfam shop in St Peter Port.

Ipes will sponsor the walk for the 13th year meaning every penny raised will go directly to the benefiting charities. Ipes Guernsey Managing Director Michel Davy says, “We are confident the new route will be a great attraction to walkers and we are very pleased to once again be supporting this event.”

The organisers of Guernsey’s World Aid Walk are walking the walk to ensure a safe route is found for this year’s event.

Bella Farrell Chair of the World Aid Walk says, “Following last year’s walk a number of concerns were raised about how busy the traffic was on the route especially when the walkers were walking all together at the beginning of the walk. As safety is of paramount concern to us we took the decision to review the route and make all the necessary preparations for a safe walk.”

“We have been liaising with Sgt John Tostevin from the Guernsey Police who has been fantastic in mapping out a safer route for us and helping by pledging some support on the day to back up our marshals. It really has been a team and community effort to ensure the walk goes ahead and is as safe as possible.” Bella Farrell concludes.

The World Aid Walk Committee has decided to do a trial run of the new route ahead of finalising the preparations. The planned new route is the current route in reverse starting and finishing in Market Square, St Peter Port.
Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.
Sgt John Tostevin says “The Guernsey Police has the Community at heart of everything we do and when we heard the World Aid Walk were having difficulty with their route we were more than happy to assist and use our road safety knowledge to protect the future of this popular island fundraiser.”

Ipes will sponsor the walk for the 13th year meaning every penny raised will go directly to the benefiting charities. Ipes Guernsey Managing Director Michel Davy says, “We are delighted to once again be involved with the walk and are excited by the walk taking on a new lease of life with the new route being planned.”

The 2013 World Aid Walk will take place on Monday 6 May 2013. For more information visit: www.worldaidwalk.org.gg

Richard Collas will be carrying on the role undertaken for many years by the former Bailiff Sir Geoff Rowland.
Chair of the World Aid Walk Bella Farrell says, “Sir Geoff Rowland was always a great supporter of the walk so we are delighted and honoured Richard Collas has agreed to support the event.”

“The walk is only a couple of weeks away now and I would encourage people to sign up and take part.” Bella Farrell concludes.
Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.

Richard Collas says, “I am looking forward to officially starting the World Aid Walk in 2012. I took part last year and would encourage others to do so this year. You get a chance to have a good walk, enjoy yourself in good company and raise money for charities at the same time. At the end, you feel invigorated knowing that you have completed a challenge for the benefit of good causes. I hope to see lots of participants on the start line on the day.”

The 20km walk in Guernsey will start at 9am from Market Square and smaller walks in Herm and Sark will begin at 9.30am and 12noon respectively.

For the 12th year locally founded fund services firm Ipes will sponsor the event. Michel Davy, Managing Director, Ipes Guernsey says, “We are delighted to hear the island’s Bailiff has agreed to support the event. While the World Aid Walk is a fantastic community event and a great day out for families it also raises vital funds to support the world’s poor and in reality helps to save lives through the funds raised.”

The organisers of the World Aid Walk are hoping record numbers of walkers will take part in the event across the Bailiwick.

The 42nd World Aid Walk will this year take place on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May and for the second year will be extending across the Bailiwick with walks taking place in Guernsey, Herm and Sark.

Chair of the World Aid Walk Bella Farrell says, “We’re delighted Herm and Sark are able to take part once again and we expect their walks to continue to flourish this year. After bad weather last year we’re hoping walkers weren’t put off and will come out in force once again. If the walk could be bigger and better than ever we would be really pleased as every penny raised goes to the work of the participating charities.”

Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.

The 20km walk in Guernsey will start at 9am from Market Square and smaller walks in Herm and Sark will begin at 9.30am and 12noon respectively.

For the 12th year locally founded fund services firm Ipes will sponsor the event, Ipes Guernsey’s Managing Director Michel Davy says, “We are really pleased to be continuing our association with this popular event. As a Guernsey founded business it is great to be able to support an event which so many islanders enjoy taking part in while raising money for much needed causes overseas.”

“I braved the weather and took part last year and thoroughly enjoyed the walk, I hope many islanders will take part again this year as it is a great day out for everyone and is a challenge for all abilities.” Davy concludes.

Entry forms are now available and can be collected from Ipes, Oxfam, island schools and Beau Sejour or can be downloaded from the World Aid Walk website – www.worldaidwalk.org.gg you can also donate to walk online by visiting www.charitygiving.co.uk.
