Oxfam
Oxfam will use its portion of money raised through the Guernsey World Aid Walk 2010 to help fund its various Oxfam Education Programmes around the world.
Oxfam believes that every single child has the right to free, good-quality primary education so that they can develop the skills they need to make themselves heard in the world, to make positive changes in their lives, and finally break free from poverty.
Communities are supported by Oxfam in a variety of ways. In some cases Oxfam helps people buy bricks and mortar to build a school and assists in the provision of resources within the school. Oxfam also runs teacher training programmes to staff schools and helps with advocacy where people's rights have been overlooked.
One example of Oxfam's education project is in Shinyanga, Tanzania. In 2003, Oxfam initiated an education quality improvement project in this area. Since then, Oxfam has seen huge improvements to the quality of teaching in Shinyanga. Exam results have improved by 30 per cent and the number progressing on to secondary school has doubled. More work needs to be done however, and with your support, Oxfam can ensure these improvements are continued and replicated nationally to benefit thousands more children in Tanzania.
