Tumaini Fund
Tumaini will put their share of money raised through the Walk towards secondary school education for Aids orphans living in Kagera, North West Tanzania. The Tumaini Fund is currently supporting 10,000 orphans here, although there are believed to be up to 200,000 Aids orphans in the area.
In Kagera only seven percent of secondary school aged children get access to secondary education. Very few of these children come from subsistence-farming families and even fewer are orphans. In 2009 Tumaini sent 3000 orphans to secondary school by paying their fees and equipping them. This costs £35 per child and will change their lives forever, bringing access to further education and employment and freeing them from the grinding poverty of subsistence-farming. It also enables them, in the future, to support their wider families. Tumaini intend to use any funds from the walk to ensure entry to secondary education for as many orphan-students as possible.
